BROTHER UK SHOWS THE BENEFIT OF LOCAL INVESTMENT & SUPPORT

Gemmer started with Brother UK in September 2014 as a Business and Administration Apprentice through The Apprentice Academy. She worked her way through Supply Chain and Service, Business Management and Administration to gain cross business experience and understand the wider business as a whole.

Throughout her time at Brother UK she took it upon herself to become an apprentice ambassador alongside her normal day to day job role by delivering talks to local schools and colleges promoting apprenticeships through telling her own personal journey, offering support, advice on a “real” story of a successful apprenticeship and skills gap training.

This isn’t to put a tick in the box for the business as it sits as extra work alongside her day job.In the past 12 months she has reached out to over 800 students with more ambassador work in the pipeline to follow.

Gemmer secured her full time position at Brother UK in April 2016 as Community Engagement Co-Ordinator, since becoming a full time employee Gemmer has been shortlisted for 2 awards: ‘Rising Star Award – Education’ and ‘Skills for Business – Advanced Apprentice of The Year’ with 1 more award outcome to follow. Gemmers’ new role will allow her to have come full circle as she was once an apprentice and now working alongside the Community Engagement Manager looking at other potential apprentices for Brother UK. This involves developing and delivering a bespoke Apprenticeship Programme for Brother UK.

Future plans for Gemmer are to continue to promote apprenticeships through her Ambassador work within the local community and gearing up Brothers own apprentices to go on and take the lead doing this once completing their apprenticeship. She is also looking forward to starting a Business Degree in the next financial year.
